Webhooks now support message status events

Delivered, read and failed status changes now fire your webhook in real time, alongside inbound messages.

Your webhook endpoint now receives a dedicated event every time a sent message changes status — queued, sent, delivered, read or failed — not just for inbound messages.

What changed

Previously, status updates were only visible by polling the Get Status endpoint. Now they push to your webhook URL the moment they happen, signed with the same HMAC-SHA256 signature as every other event.

{
  "event": "message.status",
  "message_id": "wamid.abc123",
  "status": "delivered",
  "timestamp": "2026-10-10T14:22:00Z"
}

Enabling it

No action needed if you already have a webhook URL configured — status events start flowing automatically. New to webhooks? Set one up from Instance settings.
